Koloqua Update: Fashion, Pop Culture, Business and More!

How’s my pipo doing ooo? We’ve officially entered the final stretch of the year. I can’t be alone when I say this year has not been an easy one. Although, for some people, the year has come with nothing but dialogue worthy moments. As such, it’s the most appropriate time to restart the dialogue with our Koloqua Updates. If you are new here, our weekly updates bring you the latest on all things Liberian pop culture. Some of these include; fashion, trending politics, entertainment news, and all other major moments you may have missed.
Fashion and Entertainment
In the past week, Liberians took the fashion world by a storm. As it seems, though, the men topped the ladies with their dialogue-worthy looks. Looking at the below looks, what do you think? Meanwhile, the 2022 MTN Liberia Music Awards has ‘Switched it Up’ with the release of their theme of the year, along with the list of nominees. As you’d imagine, the nominations ruffled up some feathers as popular artist, MC Caro was left with very few nominations despite having an international breakthrough year. Adversely, some artists nominated did not release any original hit body of work in the year in review. The lapses in nominations had some fans searching for more transparency in the MLMA nominations process, while others questioned the relevance of some categories. As they say in Liberia, you simply cannot please everyone, so why even try?

Meanwhile, Menswear Designer, Angelo Koimene and his longtime girlfriend turned Fiance’, Nurse and Beauty Professional, Meekie, are expecting a baby. The couple hosted their baby shower over the weekend. The shower was graced by their influential friends and family including; Real Estate Developer, Bleejay Innis, and Jeweler, Samuel Koimene, among others. It truly gave young Liberian royalty, and we loved to see it.

Business Moves
On the other hand, Businesswoman, Anita Jallah announced the coming of her new modeling agency, which features female models of different body types, including plus-sized models. Likewise, to top the week off, Miss Liberia, Veralyn Vonleh has started her reign amassing a few brand ambassadorships titles. The newly crowned queen announced her partnerships with Global Tracking and Maritime Solutions, and TipMe Liberia via social media.

But wait, there’s more. The CEO of KEEP Liberia, Brenda Brewer Moore, announced the publication of her forthcoming book titled, ‘Living Legends’. This first of two books in her living legends series is said to feature women alive today who deserve to have their stories told. Proceeds from the book will be directed towards KEEP’s efforts in improving literacy rates among children in Liberia. Meanwhile, Author, Wayetu Moore stepped out for an outing over the weekend at the Georgia Badiel Foundation Gala in New York City. The event was hosted by Georgia Badiel Liberty, an Author, Model, Creative Director, and Wife to Liberian professional, Chid Liberty. It was graced by other Liberians, including Marketing professionals Barkue Tubman-Zarwolo and Madea Neyor, Chef, Rosemarie Tolbert, Creative Professional, Peter Jallah, and Actress, Saycon Sengbloh, among others.

It truly was a remarkable week indeed for Liberians around the world. As creatives and professionals work to increase Liberia’s visibility, we will be here documenting the journey. Thank you for joining the dialogue with us. With that, be sure to comment your favorite moments of the week, and share with all who will enjoy it.
