Getting to Know Sarlea Mah in 6 Questions
Q. What is one thing you’ve learned over the years that you are bringing with you into your new age? What is something you are leaving behind?
A. The one thing I’ve learned over the years that I’m bringing into my new age is to trust myself and my creative abilities. I believe it will take me very far beyond my imagination. I’ve also learned to move cautiously when it comes to people. I was raised to always see the good in people, but I’ve learned over the years that not all people are good and that it’s extremely important to protect your aura and the people you allow into your space. I’m learning to leave any fear of failure behind and trust that the universe will always lead me into positive light. All I have to do is listen.
Q. We’ve noticed you love to visit more tropical locations during your vacations; Describe your thought process when choosing a vacation destination.
A. There are 195 countries in the world today. This total comprises 193 countries that are member states of the United Nations and 2 countries that are non-member observer states: the Holy See and the State of Palestine. My dream is to travel to every single one of them, so when choosing my vacations, I select destinations according to regions unless it’s spontaneously planned, which happens a lot lol. Currently I’m working on several business ventures which takes up a lot of my time as well as blogging and working full time. This year, I’ve decided to cover most of the Caribbean countries because it’s a quick flight away, the most being 4 hrs from my home base in DC.
Q. With such a colorful and vibrant fashion sense, it is difficult to determine what your favorite colors are. Do you have some? If so, what are they, and why?
A. Lol, well, I love bright colors because it matches my spirit. I love the color red because to me it’s sexy, powerful and fierce. I absolutely love pink because it’s feminine, flirty and happens to be my late wife’s favorite color, so it holds a special place in my heart. I love black n white because it’s sophisticated, classy, and elegant. I especially love it in my home because it represents cleanliness and is overall very chic. I love the color green because I love nature, harmony, greenery. My backyard is one of my favorite places in my home because I love to walk barefoot on my grass and admire my gigantic Oak tree. I absolutely love the color yellow because it’s bright and happy – the one thing I strive for the most…. true happiness. So you see (lol) I love all colors because they all tell a story.
Q. As a Travel blogger, you have visited many countries, and counting. What has been your favorite country to visit so far?
A. I don’t have a favorite country because every country I have visited had something wonderful to offer, things that I’ve come to cherish. Traveling the world has made me a well rounded person, it’s humbled me and taught me things no classroom ever could. The people I’ve met on this journey have changed my life for the better and allowed me to truly open my eyes. These things didn’t happen in one country, it’s a collection of little treasures from all of them combined.
Q. Is Liberia on your travel list for the near future? Why or why not?
A. Liberia is definitely on my list of travels, ABSOLUTELY! It’s my home; the place I was birthed. My mother insisted that I waited until she finished building a house for my siblings and I, and the times is soon approaching for my return back home. I’m so excited to go because I want my audience to see Liberia through my eyes. I have already started to put creative ides together for my trip. And looking forward to making you all proud.
Q. You seem to have the best of all worlds traveling with your girlfriend, who doubles as your photographer. As such, what are some of your “Baecation” must-haves and must-do’s?
A. Yes am very fortunate indeed. When I made the decision to start blogging, I wanted to do it professionally so that people would take me serious. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I wanted to set the bar high. Instead of starting out small with just my phone camera, I invested in a DSLR camera and had my website built. When I told my girlfriend my intentions, she was very supportive! She went on to start taking photography lessons from a dear friend of mine so I could have my blog just as I envisioned. It was such a sweet gesture, and I was very touched by it. Little did we know, my sweetheart had an amazing talent and has continued to capture me in ways even I couldn’t imagined. We are a team, and we work great together. Many people are not aware that I’m extremely shy, but having your lover as your photographer is one of the best things that’s ever happened lol. She knows my true essence and captures it beautifully. I love what I do so I don’t mind working all day and making sure my clients are happy, but because I know my girlfriend is not about that life all day even tho it gets like that at times, I always make sure on every vacation or client related trips, I set aside a full day sometimes two if time permits, to relax with babe, do whatever she wants to do because she likes her quality time and I’m happy to give it to her . That’s a must on every baecation.
